Is alli only for the obese?

Is alli designed mainly for the obese and morbidly obese?

obese: more than 20% of ideal body weight, or BMI of 30 or above
morbidly obese: more than 50% or 100 pounds above their ideal body weight

Wow, obese is only 20% over your ideal weight? So if mine is 130 pounds, I'm officially obese at 156? Morbidly obese at 195 seems reasonable, but obese at 156 doesn't.

I think it was really designed for those who are close to morbidly obese. After all, if you are 100 pounds overweight, the percentage impact will be huge. If you are trying to lose ten pounds, it won't make much difference at all.

The obese measurement doesn't mean much. Many weightlifters have very low body fat percentages, but would be considered obese, because they have muscle weight.

I think Alli is good for anyone who wants to lose weight, but is having trouble doing it on their own.

Weight lifters are a rather unusual case, don't you think? Just because you have some extremes and exceptions, doesn't mean it isn't true for the average person.

I do think it is intended only for those with serious problems, but I imagine most of the sales will be to people trying to get extra skinny.

I think you can tell whether a person has extra fat to lose or not. If the person looks overweight, then I think they will be fine taking Alli. I would not trust taking it just to become skinny though. If you are simply average weight and want to lose a few pounds, I do not think taking Alli is appropriate.

Yeah, it would be bad for people who don't really need to lose weight and just want to look like a stick. They probably eat minimal fat anyway, and alli would eliminate all of it, and that's not healthy.

I'm still stuck on the definition of obese. I'd like to get down to obese. That's now my goal. To be only obese.

Although I think of taking medications as something that only really heavy people will do, there could be a big benefit in avoiding obesity and the eventual health problems they cause. If someone who is only 10% overweight can use alli to get back to an ideal weight, and uses the medication to keep his or her weight under control, it would make an amazing difference in his or her future.
