What ways can we lessen the side effects or the risk of them? I think eating less fat helps. Is there anything else?

I think reducing your fat intake well before you start is a good idea. I have no idea if fat you have eaten before can sort of hang around in your system and cause problems.

The best thing about reducing your fat intake beforehand is probably that it will get you in the habit of not eating so much fat.
